Rúrik Gíslason was in the starting lineup of Iceland in the friendly match against Norway last night. The game ended with Norway’s 3-2 victory.
Rúrik played a little bit at the beginning of the year but has had more playing time after the new year.
“I just like playing soccer now. The coach of Sandhausen gave me a new life in January and I try to pay people back, who believe in me.” Rúrik said after the game.
Rúrik started the game on the left wing, but he has played a lot of different positions on the national team.
“I feel good just in the field and feel like I’m feeling confident from the world, which is a very good feeling and elevates me to a higher level. Hopefully I can help the team, no matter what position it will be.”
It is uncertain where Rúrik Gíslason will play next season, but his deal with Sandhausen in the German B-league is running out.
Rúrik signed with Sandhausen during the season when he joined the club in January. Rúrik came to Sandhausen from Nurnberg as he was in the cold. Sandhausen wants to hold Rúrik but is uncertain whether he will stay there.
“This is untouched. I have a contract offer from them and will check my case after the World Cup, “said Rúrik at Football.com today.
Rúrik scored three goals in fifteen games with Sandhausen, who finished 11th in the German B-league.
“This was what I needed. I had a coach who had great faith in me. It was a good feeling to be in the starting line-up, although you have been traveling with the national team. It was respectful to me and that’s what I needed at this point, “said Rúrik who tested Sandhausen’s new position after the longest finishing touches.
“After a long time at the Nurnberg class, it’s amazing what one can appreciate the time you get. I was playing as a winger, striker and backman in a four-line line. I was playing various positions and had fun at all. ”

It’s now official that Rurik will move on from FC Nurnberg and until summer he will be playing in Sandhausen. The new club is also a 2. Bundesliga club and is also fight in the top of the league, like Nurnberg.
I’d like to congratulate Rurik on the move, and I look forward to seeing his further development and fight for a place in the Icelandic Euro squad.
Rurik Gislason is going to move on from FC Nürnberg in the January transfer window, and there is interest from Denmark, where he has a past in Viborg FF, OB and FCK.
With his 181 matches in the Superligaen, Rurik Gislason is the Icelander listed for most performances in Denmark’s best football series. From 2007 to 2015, the offensive player broke his folds in Viborg FF, OB and FC Copenhagen.
The 181 matches have been standing since Rurik Gislason left FC Copenhagen in favor of FC Nürnberg in 2015, but it is not unthinkable that more matches will soon be added.
29-year-old Rurik Gislason can stand in front of a comeback in Danish football in the January transfer window.
He leaves FC Nürnberg in January. It’s still unclear what’s going to happen, but Rurik really wants to join Iceland in World Cup, and it requires him to play some time in the spring. There is no immediate prospect in Nuremberg, so he must go away, says Rurik Gislason’s agent, Magnus Agnar Magnusson, to tipsbladet.dk and adds:
“There is interest from Denmark, and that is also from Holland, Belgium and Turkey. The Danish clubs can remember Rurik from his time in Viborg, OB and FC Copenhagen, and it is my impression that he has a nice name in Denmark. We must see – it is not at all possible that he finds a club in Denmark.
Just over a year ago, tipsbladet.dk brought an interview with Rurik Gislason, who made it clear that he finds it hard to see himself in other Danish clubs than FC Copenhagen.
“There is only one club for me in Denmark. It is FC Copenhagen at this time. There are Danish clubs who have asked, but I have said that I will only play for FCK in Denmark. I felt so good at FCK and I have a lot of respect for the club. I also had a good time in Viborg and OB, but I received a lot of respect from the fans in FCK. It’s also about the level, for FCK playing in the top, but it’s mostly because I enjoyed it so much in the club. It would be a shame to play for another club in Denmark, said Rurik Gislason on January 6th to tipsbladet.dk.
Immediately, Rurik Gislason does not look like an obvious topic for FCK in the forthcoming transfer window, so the Irishman must eat their own words if the interest from Denmark is to be a club change.
“After playing for FC Copenhagen, it’s hard to play for another club in Denmark, because it will be on a completely different level. But Rurik is in a situation where he can not only choose between all clubs in the world, so if there is a good offer from Denmark, I’m sure he will consider it, “said the agent.
Rurik Gislason has had a bad season in Germany and has just played in three league matches for FC Nürnberg in the German 2nd Bundesliga.

Iceland will meet Argentina, Croatia and Nigeria in next years World Cup in Russia.
16/06 | Argentina – Iceland (Otkrytiye Arena, Moscow)
22/06 | Nigeria – Iceland (Volgograd Arena, Volgograd)
26/06 | Iceland – Croatia (Rostov Arena, Rostov-on-Don)
I’ve seen multiple German articles these last days, that talks about a possible move away from FC Nurnberg. Iceland just qualified for next years World Cup, and with Rúrik’s injury shortly before last years Euro Cup, he is looking to be a regular starter for his team. He takes nothing for granted, and will fight for his place in the Icelandic squad, that will be heading to Russia next year, but it’s hard when the FC Nurnberg coach is looking elsewhere for players and often leaves Rúrik out.
Rúrik’s contract expires in the summer 2018 and if FC Nurnberg want’s to earn a bit of cash, there could very well be a transfer on the way this winter.
